There is no single perfect birthday
Readiness matters more than age. Many children can begin gentle number-sense games around early primary years, while structured two-digit strategies often fit later primary grades. Early teens can still begin — progress simply starts at Stage 1 and moves faster when foundations are already strong.
Signs of readiness
- Can count objects reliably and compare quantities
- Understands that 10 ones make a ten
- Can focus on a short activity for several minutes
- Responds well to encouragement rather than pressure
How to keep it joyful
Short daily sessions beat long weekend cram sessions. Pair a stage drill with a game, celebrate strategy explanations, and avoid turning every car ride into a quiz if the child is tired.
